Amouage: history of Oman luxury brand
Origins of the Brand
Amouage was founded in 1983 in the Sultanate of Oman, commissioned by Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said to revive the ancient Arabian art of perfumery. The vision came from Prince Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, who aimed to create "The Gift of Kings," blending Omani heritage with global luxury.

Drawing from Oman's rich history in frankincense and spices, the brand sought to produce opulent scents using rare ingredients. Initially, French perfumer Guy Robert crafted the first fragrance, Gold, incorporating over 120 natural elements. This marked Amouage as a symbol of royal elegance, quickly gaining international acclaim.
Evolution and Global Recognition
Over the decades, Amouage evolved under creative directors like Christopher Chong, who introduced bold collections inspired by art, culture, and nature. By the 2000s, the brand expanded its portfolio, emphasizing sustainability and artisanal craftsmanship. In 2025, Renaud Salmon became the creative director of Amouage.

Today, Amouage operates from Muscat, with boutiques worldwide, maintaining its Omani roots while collaborating with renowned noses. It has become synonymous with niche luxury, often featuring high concentrations of precious oils like oud and myrrh. The house's commitment to quality has earned it a loyal following among connoisseurs.
